Clockwork

This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Each one is to gather as much [manna] as he needs. . . Then Moses said to them, "No one is to keep any of it until morning." . . . However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell. . . Each morning everyone gathered as much as he needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away. Exodus 16:16-21

God set this incredible form of provision up for the Israelite people to cause full and total dependence upon His grace for the meeting of every single one of their needs.  They were commanded not to try and store any up for the next day.  In other words - let God’s portion of grace be enough for you today and trust that He will provide tomorrow.  They had such a hard time with this one.  I think so often the same problem lies within us.  We trust the Lord too little to provide our every day needs.  We’re constantly worrying about tomorrow and the problems we will face.  If we could only see that Christ is enough.  He is putting these longings inside of us for security so that we would find it in Him.  He is able to exceed our expectations and longings and desires with the fullness of His glory and if we search for all our satisfaction in Him, we will find it.

We look to you to meet our needs

And store it up for rainy days

And just like clockwork as the sun will rise it’s gone

You give us room to need You

And every step we take You match and more

You started it to start

How You leave us longing, but leaving holes is not Your thing

How You give us wanting, but it’s nothing You can’t handle

For all of these desires that You have placed inside of us are You

And only You

Your voice is booming from the Heaven’s

Shaking mountains we have feared

To bring them crashing down and show that You are God

We’ve beheld Your beauty

Though just in part it’s so much more

Than we can handle yet we’re wanting even more
