magnificent
“and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory . . .”
                                                               John 1:14

there is so much mystery in the truth of this verse.  it’s so mysterious that it doesn’t make any sense.  i’ve heard it called love beyond reason. . . that God, seated on his throne in Heaven, became a man and came down into our world, so that His light could shine on His enemies.  that He would become sin, the very thing that was keeping us from Him, and then overwhelmingly conquer it so that we could enter into friendship with Him.  could there be a more beautiful mystery?  and we can’t rationalize Jesus’ behavior.  He does what He wants to when he wants to.  the magnificent truth of it all is that He wanted to do this, so He did.  and we, who at one time had all our guns pointed His direction, are now the beneficiaries of His grace.  there’s nothing ordinary about this kind of love.  it’s a mystery so huge!  so magnificent!  why, then do we get bored with it?  why, then do we not stand in awe of it every second of every day and live with extravagant love toward others?  be amazed by the mystery of this incredible God who wrapped His glory in flesh and dwelt among us so that we could behold His glory.
what a mighty King robed in majesty / the brilliance of Your light shines on me / and i abandon all to follow after You / for nothing else is worth this passionate pursuit / my Glorious, magnificent are You / how marvelous, who can compare to You / and the wonder of it all is that i belong to You / You came into the world a mystery to all/ the brilliance of Your light shined on me/ the power of the cross has covered me with love/ so how could i return to who i was before?
