Not Just [another god]
“thus says the LORD, the King of israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts, 'I am the first and I am the last,
and there is no God besides Me. . . is there any God besides Me? or is there any other Rock? I know of none.”
Isaiah 44:6-8
i am an idol factory. i can seriously make an idol out of anything. my money, my food, my tv, my family, you name it. if it’s created, it’s fair game. maybe i’m the only one, but it seems like this has been a problem since long before reality tv tried to make people into idols. israel was constantly making idols out of everyday stuff. in this passage, God is kinda making fun of this foolish guy who takes wood and makes a god with it and then with the left-overs makes a fire and cooks with it. but don’t we all do this? we exchange the glory of the living Creator God for his creation. God is the only One, and he is jealous for his purchased people, so we need to seriously take inventory of what could be an idol in our lives and forsake all that stuff that will only bring death and dissatisfaction. we need to glory in the Creator God who paid for us with His blood. after all, that’s why He created us!
You were as tomorrow You’ll be / when you formed creation from your imagination / You are as tomorrow You were / pouring out your presence over all the earth / not just another god, You are so much more / and my life is for You, sweet Jesus i adore You / not just another god, You’re the only One / who’s worthy of my praise / so praises i will bring / Your word has created all things and laid the foundation for all of salvation / Your words are alive inside of me and flowing like a fountain from the glorious King
