Summon Your Power
“Summon Your power, Oh God, show us Your strength as You have done before.”
Psalm 68:28
“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus."
Acts 4:29-30
i grew up going to this all-you-can-eat mexican buffet. it was soooo good when I was a kid. we’d go for our birthdays and get these awesome piñatas and stuff ourselves until we were going to explode then go back to our apartment and stuff the piñatas until they were going to explode. then we’d take out my dad’s circular saw blades and use the piñata as target practice until it literally did explode. it was great! i recently went back. i was so excited. you have no idea! i could feel my inner child reemerging and the urge to go buy circular saw blades got overwhelming. we went through the line and I got all the foods that I used to love. and then came the first bite. a knee-jerk reaction caused me to immediately regurgitate it. the food was horrible. “this isn’t how i remembered it,” i thought. it had changed drastically. i am so glad God is not like that restaurant. He tastes the same today as He always has, because He is the same as He’s always been. back in the day, the Lord promised power to make disciples when the Holy Spirit came upon us and that we would do greater things than even He did through the power of the Holy Spirit. Those are two very shocking statements, but when we see how zealous the Lord is for His name to be known among the nations, we can understand his empowering presence among His people. even still, we often shrink back and try to live in our power. this is never how it was designed to be. God brought salvation by grace alone as a work that He alone can complete. God called us to make disciples of all nations promising that He would be with us the whole time! we’re not in this alone. i’m praying for God to do things through me that i could sit in my old recliner when my legs have stopped working and tell my great grandchildren so that they can love Jesus and know He’s the same God for them as He was for me. david’s God is our God. the apostles God is our God and we can experience Him just like they did because He is the same for us! let’s join in their cry ask Jesus to summon His power and show us His strength as He has done before and we will see Him move!
summon Your power oh Lord / show us Your strength as You have done before / stretch out Your hand with miracles and signs and wonders / give us stories of glory and boldness to walk in Your truth / we will ascribe the greatness of Your name / the greatness of Your name
