Awaken
My Heart
“Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with
every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
Just
as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world that we should
be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us
as
sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention
of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely
bestowed on us in the Beloved.”
Ephesians
1:3-6
Before the foundation of time was ever set into motion, God
was.
When time is done and over, He will still be. He was before
all
things and will last beyond all things and still be reigning as
King. If that isn’t incredible enough, more still
that we,
who are only a breath on the scale of eternity, were thought of, loved
and chosen by God before He even created time.
Before we did anything good or bad, or could make it on our own merit,
God chose to make us His own. He looked at us through the
bounds
of time and chose us. There’s no way we could have
chosen
God on our own (Rom. 3:10-12). Our hearts were hardened from
birth, so God put a new heart in us (Ez. 36:26) that he could woo to
himself irresistibly by grace. Isn’t that amazing?
Of all the truths in the Word of God, the sovereignty of my King sends
me into a state of awe more than anything else. And he
redeemed
us for the praise of the glory of His grace. He redeemed us
for
His name’s sake. And so with every breath of this
song,
we’re asking God to awaken our hearts to live for the very
purpose for which He created us. . . His name. To sing with a
passion for the very reason He redeemed us . . . His glory.
To
make much of Him with our lives and our songs and the two would reflect
each other and reflect His glory.
So as you sing this song or listen to it, ask the Lord to change your
heart and awaken it to the wonder of your redemption. That
God
chose you before time began to be redeemed in Christ and live for His
glory.
